Cross-border quotations for vision inspection and barcode readers
addaScan, a Johannesburg-based machine vision integrator, quotes industrial barcode readers and vision inspection stations for factories across Africa in US dollars. This page sets out how those quotations are structured, what moves the price and what to send.

Choose what the quotation should cover
Request a scoped USD quotation. Identify the equipment, engineering and site responsibilities before comparing suppliers.
| Purchase scope | Specify in the quotation |
|---|---|
| Reader supply | Exact model, firmware, lens/light, cables, licences and accessories; identify each included item. |
| Configured reading point | Add mounting, lighting trials, trigger and output setup, and an agreed sample test. State who installs and connects it. |
| Integrated inspection station | Add the required views, reference-data interface, PLC/reject work, FAT, site acceptance and handover; assign each interface to an owner. |
Itemise freight, delivery terms, importer and customs/tax responsibilities, engineering travel, installation, training and support. Availability, lead time and warranty terms are confirmed in the quotation.
What decides an industrial barcode reader price
There is no single price for “a barcode scanner”. These factors move the quotation, roughly in the order buyers meet them.
| Factor | Why it changes the price |
|---|---|
| Handheld or fixed-mount | A handheld scanner for a shop counter or goods-in is a different product class from a fixed reader that decodes every pack on a moving line. |
| Code type and surface | 1D labels, 2D DataMatrix/QR and direct part marks on metal need different sensors, optics and lighting. |
| Field of view and speed | A larger or variable code position, faster line or several sides of a pack can mean a wider-field reader or more than one reader. |
| Environment | Protection ratings, lens covers, washdown, dust and temperature affect the model and accessories. |
| Interface and data | PLC protocol, comparison with the production job and data logging decide the configuration and engineering time. |
| Scope beyond the reader | Brackets, lighting, trials, installation, site acceptance, training, freight and import terms are quoted as separate lines. |
Johannesburg engineering, with project-specific site work
addaScan assesses the line from Johannesburg. Agreed site work can include installation, SAT and operator training by engineers travelling from Johannesburg. Quotes are in USD, with travel itemised separately. Confirm freight, import responsibilities, samples, support and working language for the project.
| Project stage | What to agree before proceeding |
|---|---|
| Remote assessment and samples | Provide normal variation, real faults and acceptance limits. Agree samples, the test approach and how materials reach Johannesburg. |
| Station and line interfaces | Define camera views, guarding, mounting, triggering, PLC messages, product tracking and reject confirmation; name the owner of each interface. |
| FAT, transport and import | Agree acceptance tests, supply scope, freight, trade terms and customs responsibilities in the quotation. Import costs depend on the specific goods and transaction. |
| Installation, SAT and training | Schedule the line access, site readiness and engineering travel. Verify performance under the agreed production conditions and train the responsible operators. |
| Support and changes | Agree remote access, site support, backups, spares and recipe-change responsibilities. A new product or layout may require another feasibility check. |

What to send for a quotation
Photos or samples of the code on the finished pack or part, the code type and expected content, line speed and pack spacing, the mounting space, the PLC or host system, the reject or alarm action, the factory country and town, and the delivery terms you want quoted.

Discuss the product, line and required action
Describe the product, the required decision and the factory country. We will use those details to scope the next assessment.
