// Key takeaways
- Hikvision’s 2025 Annual Report defines HikRobot as Hangzhou Hikrobot Co., Ltd., a subsidiary, and one of its innovative businesses.
- The report describes HikRobot’s machine vision hardware in four lines: 2D standard, smart, 3D and industrial control, with VisionMaster and RobotPilot software.
- HikRobot has applied to list on the Shenzhen ChiNext market; the report tracks the review from March 2023 to January 2025.
- Hikvision has had a Johannesburg office since 2015; that is not, by itself, a HIKROBOT support arrangement.
- An inspection station needs triggered, uncompressed images and a PLC link: a machine vision camera, not a security camera.
What does the annual report actually say?
The report’s definitions name HikRobot as Hangzhou Hikrobot Co., Ltd. and, in the same list, the other innovative businesses: EZVIZ, HikAuto, HikMicro, HikSemi, HikImaging, HikFire and HikRayin (Hikvision Annual Report 2025, definitions). Elsewhere it refers to HikRobot as a subsidiary of the company and names CETHIK Group as Hikvision’s controlling shareholder. This is a statement about the 2025 report period; we do not extend it into an unverified current shareholding percentage or a claim of dealer authorisation.
| Name used in the report | Company named in the report | Business |
|---|---|---|
| Hikvision (the Company) | Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co., Ltd.; CETHIK Group is named as controlling shareholder | Video and security products and solutions |
| HikRobot | Hangzhou Hikrobot Co., Ltd. | Machine vision, mobile robots and articulated robots |
| EZVIZ | Hangzhou EZVIZ Network Co., Ltd. | Listed among the innovative businesses |
| HikMicro | Hangzhou Hikmicro Sensing Technology Co., Ltd. | Listed among the innovative businesses (thermal imaging) |
| HikAuto, HikSemi, HikImaging, HikFire, HikRayin | Named subsidiaries in the definitions | Listed among the innovative businesses |
What does HikRobot do, according to the report?
The report says HikRobot focuses on the industrial internet of things, intelligent logistics and smart manufacturing, and invests in machine vision, mobile robots and articulated robots, which it describes as a “hand, eye and foot” architecture (Hikvision Annual Report 2025, 2.7.1 and 3.3.1). Its machine vision business is the part relevant to inspection:
| Element | What the annual report says | What it means for a factory buyer |
|---|---|---|
| Hardware | Four product lines: 2D standard, smart, 3D, and industrial control | Cameras, smart cameras and code readers, 3D sensors, and vision controllers |
| Software | VM (Vision Master) algorithm platform and RP (RobotPilot) robot vision guidance platform | VisionMaster is the inspection software we build on |
| Applications | Positioning guidance, dimensional measurement, defect detection and information recognition | The same four task groups our station pages are organised around |
| 2025 developments | Large-model applications for industrial quality inspection; 2.5D and 3D products; industrial control series; key industries named as 3C electronics, PCB and lithium batteries | Check which new products are actually available and supported in your market before designing them in |
HIKROBOT’s own product navigation matches that description, listing area-scan and line-scan cameras, smart cameras and vision sensors, fixed and handheld code readers, 3D laser profilers and vision controllers (HIKROBOT product families). Mobile robots are a separate product area and are outside this website’s inspection-station offering.
Is HikRobot a separately listed company?
Not as of the report. Hikvision reports that HikRobot applied for an initial public offering and listing on the ChiNext market of the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, and tracks the review through inquiry letters and replies (Hikvision Annual Report 2025, spin-off section). The steps reported are:
| Date | Step reported | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 7 March 2023 | Shenzhen Stock Exchange accepts HikRobot’s application for an initial public offering and listing on the ChiNext market | Hikvision 2025 Annual Report |
| 30 March and 30 June 2023 | First and second inquiry letters on the application | Hikvision 2025 Annual Report |
| 17 May and 27 July 2023 | HikRobot replies to the two inquiry letters | Hikvision 2025 Annual Report |
| 15 January 2024 | Review opinions implementation letter issued | Hikvision 2025 Annual Report |
| 2 January 2025 | Submission of the reply to the review opinions letter announced | Hikvision 2025 Annual Report |
For a buyer this matters mainly as background: a separately reporting machine vision company publishes more about its own business. Check the current status before relying on it.
The same report names Hikrobot companies in Europe, Korea, Singapore and Japan in its table of guarantees to subsidiaries (Hikvision Annual Report 2025, guarantees). It does not name a South African Hikrobot company, and we have not found one.
Why does Hikvision’s South African presence matter, and where does it stop?
Hikvision announced in November 2015 that its local office in Johannesburg was open to serve the African market, with a demonstration area and a seminar room (Hikvision South Africa, 2015). Many South African plants know the name from site security.
That familiarity helps in one way: the group is not unknown to local buyers, IT departments or insurers. It does not establish who supplies, repairs or supports HIKROBOT machine vision products here. Ask your supplier to name, in writing, who holds spares, who repairs, and what response you can expect. addaScan is an independent integrator that builds stations on HIKROBOT hardware and VisionMaster; we are not an official HIKROBOT or Hikvision distributor.
Can a Hikvision security camera inspect products?
A surveillance image may help an operator watch a line, but a pass/fail station has other requirements: a known image moment, exposure that controls motion blur, stable lighting, suitable optics, access to raw images or results, and a reliable link to the PLC. HIKROBOT states that its GigE industrial cameras are compatible with GigE Vision and GenICam and can be driven by its MVS software or third-party GigE Vision software (HIKROBOT GigE camera datasheet).
| Requirement on an inspection line | Machine vision camera (example: HIKROBOT industrial camera) | Security camera |
|---|---|---|
| Exact image moment | Hardware trigger from a sensor or encoder; image taken when the product is in position | Continuous video; frame timing not tied to the product |
| Motion blur control | Exposure set by the integrator; global-shutter sensors chosen for moving parts | Automatic exposure tuned for scenes, not parts |
| Raw image quality | Uncompressed pixels over GigE Vision or USB3 Vision | Video streams, usually compressed |
| Software access | GenICam-compliant control; SDK and inspection software such as VisionMaster | Video management software |
| Line I/O | Trigger inputs and strobe or result outputs | Alarm I/O for security events |
| Optics | Interchangeable C-mount and similar industrial lenses, chosen for the field of view | Lenses chosen for scene coverage |
See camera and lens selection for how an inspection camera is specified.
Which HIKROBOT products are relevant to a production line?
The documented machine vision range includes industrial area-scan and line-scan cameras, vision sensors and smart cameras, code readers and vision controllers (HIKROBOT Smart Product Catalogue 2025 Q4). VisionMaster provides tools for measurement, defect detection and information recognition, and graphical, SDK and operator-design development modes (HIKROBOT VisionMaster).

How can you check what a supplier tells you?
Brand familiarity invites shortcuts. A few checks keep a HIKROBOT-based offer honest, whoever supplies it:
| Claim in an offer | How to check it | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| “Genuine HIKROBOT camera or reader” | Match the full model number and serial label to the datasheet; confirm the firmware version | HIKROBOT product pages and datasheets |
| “Latest software” | Compare the MVS, SCMVS, IDMVS or VisionMaster version in the offer with the vendor’s download centre | HIKROBOT download centre |
| “Includes deep learning” | Ask which VisionMaster modules or smart-camera tools are licensed on the exact model | Itemised licence list |
| “Official distributor” | Ask for written authorisation from the manufacturer for South Africa | The supplier; the manufacturer |
| “Local support” | Ask who repairs, who holds spares and the response time, in writing | The quotation |
HIKROBOT publishes its client software, including MVS for cameras, SCMVS for smart cameras and IDMVS for smart code readers, in its download centre (HIKROBOT download centre). Keeping the versions in the acceptance record makes later support and replacement much simpler.
What should a factory ask for?
- The exact industrial camera or reader model, lens, lighting and software licence.
- A sample-test report describing what was detected and what remained outside scope.
- The expected-data source, PLC interface and no-read or fault behaviour.
- An itemised installation and acceptance scope, with training and backup ownership.
- A named local party for spares and repair, with response terms.
addaScan’s HIKROBOT-focused engineering is described on how we deliver. For a brand comparison, see HIKROBOT vs Cognex, HIKROBOT vs KEYENCE and HIKROBOT vs Basler.
Confirm the exact product identity in the purchase record
A shared name fragment is not enough to establish compatibility. Put the full manufacturer, model suffix, firmware, lens interface, acquisition protocol and intended software licence in the purchase record. Retain the actual datasheet used for selection. A quotation that says only “Hik camera” leaves open whether the equipment is an industrial acquisition device or a security product with a different operating model.
For a replacement, test the complete inspection recipe and PLC interaction before production release. A live video stream proves that images are available; it does not prove deterministic triggering, the required exposure mode, supported pixel formats or compatibility with an existing calibration. Ask the supplier to demonstrate the features that the inspection depends on using the proposed model.
Apply the same discipline to local support claims. Record the organisation actually providing commissioning, warranty handling and spares, and use its documented scope. Brand relationships and public product catalogues do not establish that a particular South African reseller is authorised or that a specific item is held in local stock. This keeps the comparison useful for procurement without implying unsupported equivalence or superiority.
