Milk packaging print-defect inspection
Compare aligned defect-model outputs with an independent check of the expected date.
Food packaging version verification checks the label, printed film or outer case being used against the approved packaging master for the active product. A camera can compare visible identifying features, text or codes and hold mismatched packs. The production order and approved master must supply the expected identity; the camera must not choose the recipe from the wrong pack. This verifies a production match, not artwork approval or the actual ingredients inside the product.
A correct barcode can appear on an obsolete artwork revision, and a correct inner pack can be placed in the wrong printed outer case. Define which fields distinguish the approved versions and where they can be read. The quality team approves the packaging; the inspection station enforces that approved relationship at production. Check initial loading, a new roll or label reel, a recipe change and the re-entry of reworked packs. Upstream print inspection finds defects in printed output; this station checks that the right approved output is being used for the product.
This is an engineering scope for sample assessment, not a report of a completed customer installation. The sources below support measurement, imaging or test-method principles; station performance must be established on your products.
| What the line reports | What a station checks | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|
| The previous product’s labels remain on the line | Compare the identifying text/code/feature with the active product master | The camera cannot approve the label’s legal wording. |
| The barcode is right but the artwork is old | Inspect a revision-specific feature or add a controlled version identifier | If revisions are visually indistinguishable, the station needs another identifying field. |
| The inner pack is right and the outer case is wrong | Verify each packaging level against the same authorised order | Reading one level does not verify an unseen packaging level. |
| Reworked packs re-enter after changeover | Use a controlled route and verify their packaging against the intended order | Do not let a scanned pack silently change the active recipe. |

| Component | HIKROBOT example | Role in this station |
|---|---|---|
| Camera or reader | HIKROBOT camera/reader selected for the actual identifying feature | Read print/codes or compare the approved visible artwork region. |
| Illumination | Lighting tested on glossy, curved or printed film | Keep the identifying details readable over normal presentation changes. |
| Recipe interface | Approved product-to-packaging mapping | Supply expected SKU, packaging level and version. |
| Line interface | PLC hold/reject with confirmation | Prevent release on mismatch, no-read or missing expected data. |
| Tool or software | What it does here |
|---|---|
| Master control | Keep approved product, packaging level, revision and effective change together. |
| Verification | Compare selected discriminating features; do not compare changing date fields as fixed artwork. |
| Multiple levels | Define a separate check and result for label, film and case where required. |
| Audit record | Record expected identity, observed identity, recipe revision and exception; limit retention appropriately. |
Agree the defect/feature list, acceptable variants, reference samples, failure response and excluded checks.
Supply authorised artwork versions and the fields that distinguish them. Define where expected product identity comes from and who may change it.
Provide old versions, wrong products, correct barcodes on wrong artwork and normal variable data. A result is valid only for its own part or pack cycle.
Bind the program and inspection limits to the authorised product revision; record who changes them.
Repeat the challenge set under the agreed production conditions, then check cleaning, restart, bypass and rework handling.
The optical test and integration survey define the scope before a rand budget is issued.
No numerical budget is assigned to this scope before optical feasibility and the handling/PLC requirements are defined. A shared camera model or similar product does not establish the cost of this complete station.
| Cost driver | What changes the scope | Information needed |
|---|---|---|
| Inspection points | Number of independently loaded packaging levels | Line and material-flow diagram |
| Visible identifiers | Print size, film behaviour, revision markers | Approved master and challenge packs |
| Data integration | Version ownership and order/PLC connection | Field definitions and change-control process |
Compare the scope with the cost guide. The quotation states its price date, VAT treatment, installation, commissioning and exclusions.

Every station is accepted on your products, against numbers agreed in writing before the build. How we deliver →
Challenge wrong SKU, old revision, wrong packaging level and missing expected identity.
Test startup, reel/roll replacement, recipe changes, restart and rework entry.
Verify that bypasses are authorised and recorded and that uncertain packs are physically held.
Record the challenge set, outcomes, recipe revision, inspection conditions and unresolved limits. Agree false-reject and missed-defect targets before building; no universal performance figure is assumed.
Describe the line, the products and the fault. We test on your good and faulty samples and reply with a feasibility note and a budget.
