Handheld or POS scanner
For tills, stores and goods-in. An operator aims it at one pack at a time; it does not see sachets moving past at line speed.
addaScan supplies HIKROBOT industrial code readers for Nigerian packaging lines from Johannesburg, with USD quotations. For sachets, pouches and cartons, define code presentation, line speed and the no-read response before choosing the reader. Equipment supply and line integration are scoped separately.

A soft pack is readable when flattened by hand, but fails on the conveyor when a crease crosses the symbol. Establish whether the code can be presented consistently, whether another view is needed and how a no-read is removed. Buying a reader with more features cannot by itself expose a code hidden by a fold.

Define the evidence and the failure response before selecting a camera, then test each choice on your own products and line conditions.
| Task | Reference and camera view | Exception and boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Date-adjacent code on flexible film | Locate the actual barcode independently of the printed date. Present filled sachets with their normal wrinkles and seams; test the code near the edges of the allowed travel. | A readable date does not establish a readable barcode. Keep partial symbols and a missing code distinct from a decoded wrong product. |
| Moving sachet versus operator-held sample | Use the intended conveyor, trigger and exposure conditions. Compare loose and guided packs before deciding whether another reader can solve the problem. | If a seam consistently hides the code, change presentation or position. Increasing resolution cannot reveal an occluded symbol. |
| Carton code after packing | Read the case identifier and compare it with the active packing job; identify where the case becomes stable enough to image. | A case for the preceding SKU can decode correctly. The controller must supply the current expected record. |
| Mixed code positions at dispatch | Map which carton faces may carry labels and which are visible from the conveyor. Establish one physical case event across all views. | Add a tunnel only when the required views justify it. Multiple reads of one carton must not create several dispatch events. |

A code under reflective shrink film, a carton label on a hidden face and a fold across a sachet code are three different reading problems.

Start from the code, surface and mounting space; then choose the series. The quotation names the exact model, lens, light and accessories.
| Series | Vendor positioning | Where it fits this task | Protection and interfaces (vendor list) |
|---|---|---|---|
| ID2000 | Extremely small fixed reader for embedding in machines; about 0.4–1.6 MP in HIKROBOT’s selection guide. | Inside a sachet form-fill-seal or cartoning machine where space is tight; test folds and seams at the mounting position. | ID2000E IP54, ID2000M IP65. ID2000E lists TCP, serial, FTP, UDP, Profinet, EtherNet/IP and USB. |
| ID3000 | Compact fixed reader for high-speed reading; about 1.3–5 MP. The vendor lists GS1 DataMatrix, GS1 QR, EAN/UPC, ITF-14 and Code 128 among its symbologies. | Unit codes and carton or case labels on fast packing lines. | IP67 with lens cap. Lists Profinet, EtherNet/IP, MELSEC, Fins, Modbus, SLMP, UDP, TCP, serial and FTP. |
| ID5000 | Full-featured fixed reader with a large field of view; about 3 MP and up (the series description says up to 20 MP, so confirm per model). | Soft packs whose code position or orientation varies across a wider field. | IP67 with lens cap; same protocol list as ID3000. |
| IDH2000 / IDH3000 | Handheld readers for general purposes; about 0.3–1.3 MP. | Goods-in, rework and reject-check stations where an operator presents the pack. | The handheld table lists EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, MC/SLMP and Fins; confirm protection per model. |
Positioning, resolution ranges, protection ratings and protocols are as HIKROBOT publishes them in its Machine Vision Smart Product Catalogue 2025 Q4; confirm them for the exact model in the quotation. No public price is given: the quotation lists the reader configuration, accessories, freight and any integration scope.

| Test step | Evidence and decision |
|---|---|
| Sample condition | Filled sachets from the same approved artwork include flat print, a fold across the symbol and a reflective seam. |
| Comparison to run | Capture the same variants in the proposed online position, then repeat with the agreed pack guide. Retain images and decoded payloads for both arrangements. |
| Procurement decision | If guiding exposes the symbol, include the guide in the station. If it remains hidden, relocate the view or code; do not approve a reader from the flat sample alone. |
| Acceptance record | Record each physical pack, expected identifier, read result and confirmed handling. Agree how trials cover actual speed, spacing, starts and stops. |
Record the sample ID, approved reference, hardware/software settings, expected decision, observed result, physical reject outcome and evidence file. Agree pass criteria before testing.

Creased film, the pack spacing on a fast sachet machine and whether the expiry date beside the code must also be checked move the price more than the reader itself. A code at a fixed position on a carton costs less to read reliably than a code that shifts on a pouch.
Specify the exact reader configuration, light, lens, mounting, power and data cables in the equipment line of the quotation. Itemise film guidance, encoder or sensor, PLC changes, reject tracking and commissioning as integration work. Confirm each protocol and licence against the selected model; a series name alone does not define the supplied interface.
Find a view where the whole symbol is exposed despite normal film variation.
Compare decoded identity with the sachet or carton reference supplied by the line.
Keep no-read and wrong-product outcomes tied to the pack until removal is confirmed.
Reader supply, a configured reading point and an integrated station are quoted as different scopes. Freight, import and customs responsibilities, engineering travel, installation, training and support are itemised in USD. How a cross-border quotation is structured
Prepare filled sachets across print and film variation, empty film only as a supplementary reference, good and faulty symbols, and carton labels if case reading is included. State speed, spacing, stop/start behaviour, guide access and the job-data source. Identify the person who can change the pack presentation and the PLC program.
